2008-2009 School Year Upcoming Events

Classes will start with Agiasmo on Tuesday September 16 @ 5:30 pm.

As of Tuesday 9/23/08, Greek School classes are now being held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The majority of parents incicated on the registration form that they wanted the change in order to get to church before the 5:00 traffic, and to get back home earlier at night. Classes begin at 5:00 pm sharp. Please be in class by 4:55 so that class is not interrupted.

The mission of our Afternoon Hellenic Language and Culture School is to implement the educational aims and goals as defined by the Charter of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and the decisions of the Clergy Laity Congresses.

Our main goal is to instill in the minds and hearts of our young the spiritual, moral and cultural values of our Hellenic Orthodox Heritage through the systematic instruction of the Greek Language, the Greek Orthodox Faith and the Hellenic Cultural Heritage.

Adult classes: Maria Sandilos and George Dalagelis. 
Classes are held every Tuesady, 5:30 to 7:30, September through May.
Mission and Organizational Information

Modern Greek Language Classes for Adults

The Hellenic Language & Culture School of the Greek Orthodox Community of Annunciation in Elkins Park, PA, will offer two adult Greek Language classes for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Tuition: $300 for Annunciation Church members, & $650 for non-members. Books will be extra.

ELEMENTARY MODERN GREEK. Thirty-two sessions, meeting on Fridays, 6-8 pm.

First class: Friday, September 26, 2008. 

Last class: Friday, May 15, 2009. 

This course focuses on the beginning fundamentals of communicating in Modern Greek. Training in basic conversation, listening, reading and writing along with pronunciation drills will be emphasized. Students will learn how to communicate in various social situations such as family gatherings, shopping and hotel & travel accommodations. Fundamental elements of Greek Culture will be introduced and articulated. It is intended for those with minimal or no previous knowledge of Modern Greek.

INTERMEDIATE-ADVANCED MODERN GREEK. Thirty-two sessions, meeting on Tuesdays, 7-9 pm.

First class: Tuesday, September 23, 2008.

Last class: Tuesday, May 12, 2009. 

This course will provide students with the opportunity to further implement and apply their Greek language skills. Its scope will include improving conversation skills within formal and informal environments, reading, writing, syntax, and grammatical correctness. Participants will contribute in classroom activities such as group work, reading, and discussing of Greek current affairs. Elementary I or its equivalent is a prerequisite for this class.

To register, please mail the information requested below with the appropriate check made out to the "Church of Annunciation" ATT: Adult Greek Language Class, by 9/14/08.

We will need a minimum of 6 students per group in order to start a class.
